My late friend, and boss, Raghavan (RR) used to say, "We will not take industry-corrupted persons". And we never did. We always recruited from colleges and grew our own team and project leads.
Startups would be well advised to follow RR dictum. As a startup it is very important to form the culture of the nascent organization. You have to get the right people on the bus (watch Jim Collins video). And the best way to do it is to get people who can still be easily molded.
